Three things we touched on our last trip to Sweden, in which we had the opportunity to visit the SCA production facilities.
1 - THEY ARE FAR BUT THEY ARE CLOSE
Sundsvall is located on the coast of Västernorrland, exactly in the middle of the Scandinavian peninsula, overlooking the Gulf of Bothnia: how do they ship their card worldwide?
The answer lies in the location of the plant: its location, overlooking the sea, allows SCA to have a dock for container ships, and to minimize the logistical inconveniences of transport. The reels leave the production line and are immediately stored and shipped all over the world.
This allows us at DBC Paper to have always in stock the paper preferred by our customers, in all weights. Just a phone call - or a confirmed quote on the Money Saver - to get us started with the cut in format!
2 - THEY ARE SCANDINAVIAN AND LOVE THE ENVIRONMENT
SCA - famous for its environmental protection program to which DBC Paper has also joined, by signing the SCA code of ethics - allowed us to visit one of the most important areas of their industrial cycle, the Nursery Tree.
This is a greenhouse system designed to encourage the growth of cut trees, in the context of SCA's forest management policy.
The paper mill is managing the largest private forest plot in Europe, roughly the size of BeNeLux: to exploit it adequately, without exhausting the forest ecosystem, SCA has adopted a progressive reforestation program. Put simply, when they cut one tree down on one side, they plant another in a different plot: the replanted trees are raised in the nursery trees, in order to continue the virtuous circle.
3 - SCA IS ABOUT TO LAUNCH A NEW PRODUCT
But the highlight was a visit of almost three hours inside the production halls.
Deepening the production and processing methods allowed us to expose and compare the specific needs of our business areas, and to do it directly at the source: a walk to all intents and purposes "without veils", which made it possible to touch all the stages of production and all the technological innovations implemented by SCA.
Innovations that they arrive in our country only thanks to DBC Paper, and among which it stands out a sensational product, close to launch, which we will be able to talk to you about in a few days. A revolutionary type of paper, with a very attractive price.
Why SCA? Why visit a paper mill on site? DBC Paper is proudly the only official distributor for the Italian market of Grapho Silk and Grapho Style papers, marketed with brands Tosca Silk And Tosca Style.
These are coated papers with wood and a matte finish: their composition makes them perfect for becoming the basis of periodicals and printed materials, while their ability to manage the colors of the printed images has positioned them as the material of choice for who deals with school publishing.
This journey of ours allowed us to bring about ten of our customers on site, interested in taking the opportunity to understand how far SCA can meet their needs (and the answer was: “A lot”).
Next time we would like to double the number, and involve even more Italian production companies able to choose, in one go, the quality of SCA ed the savings of DBC Paper.
