The new needs of students and the progress of teaching have intervened in a sector that has always been extremely conservative as that ofschool publishing: historic companies such as SIX Publisher have been called to a challenge, to renew the packaging of their publications while maintaining the standards of excellence confirmed in over a century of history.
A challenge faced with competence and professionalism, in which teamwork has made it possible to produce new concept school texts (and packaging): thanks to the foresight of Manrica Buri, head of SEI's Purchasing Department, between the prestigious Publishing House of the Salesian Congregation and DBC Paper an all-round collaboration relationship has been consolidated, with product excellence as an essential objective.
Lighten the weight of the kids' satchels on the one hand; on the other hand, to optimize and rationalize the cost of purchasing paper: that's why SEI has decided to choose Tosca Silk, the paper produced by DBC Paper on supplies SCA .
The term “the weight of culture”, in fact, has taken on a new meaning in recent decades: schoolchildren's backpacks are burdened with decidedly thick volumes, and all this affects their backs.
In this sense, therefore, the choosing a lighter paper (which, however, maintains the same opacity and the same thickness as those of the competition, despite being of lower weight) is decisive for solving a practical problem of everyday life.
For this reason the volumes were made in 60 gram paper (instead of the one usually used, of 65 grams): thus the weight of the volume has been optimized, and to this has been added a net saving of the 10% compared to the previous paper supply.
“In the last 15 years there has been a real run-up in school publishing: publishing houses, and SIX in the front row, have returned to focus strongly on excellent paper quality - says Manrica Buri -. L'Italian Publishers Association has provided new parameters, and since 2000 the school product has improved a lot in terms of iconography and visual impact, involving the student more in learning the contents“.
The search for the right paper was not easy: "Far from it - continues Mrs. Buri -, to find the right paper I went all the way to China. Given the consistency of the volumes and their number of pages, we needed a paper of low weight, as opaque as possible in order not to run into unacceptable risks of transparency.“.
For this collaboration, DBC Paper has provided cards with wood with a very high whiteness. The same interaction between converters, paper mills and publishing houses has produced incredible improvements over the years, and the indications of one have benefited the production techniques of the others.
“It is a market that does not allow replicas", Concludes Ms. Buri:"The competition between paper mills has been useful for us publishers, who have seen the quality and price adjust to our needs.
For this we have relations with DBC Paper increased and consolidated: the competitiveness of the special format is combined with the quick reflexes of dr. Fabrizio Daniele and his employees.
Dealing with young and enthusiastic entrepreneurs like Fabrizio is always an added value: we appreciated DBC seriousness, reliability and problem solving skills; to all this Fabrizio has added humility and entrepreneurial skills, managing to satisfy the needs highlighted by us“.
The result was surprising: in comparison with the previous texts, the books printed on DBC paper keep unchanged gloss, beauty of the print and identical pleasantness to the touch. All with a lower volume weight, and therefore a lower cost of the raw material for the publishing house.
